But First, Coffee Announces Plans to Open New Café Dedicated to Revitalizing Downtown Spaces and Creating Local Jobs

Roanoke Rapids, NC, USA - August 27, 2026 - But First, Coffee today announced the upcoming opening of its first café, marking a significant milestone for the Black woman-owned specialty coffee business and its mission to revitalize downtown spaces in rural communities across the country. The café, scheduled to open later this year, will serve as the flagship location for a brand that has set its sights on bringing high-quality specialty coffee, fresh beverages, and a warm, inclusive environment to areas that are often overlooked by major coffee chains and specialty retailers.

The launch represents more than just a new place to grab a morning cup. But First, Coffee was founded with the belief that coffee serves as a bridge between people, connecting neighbors, sparking conversations, and creating a sense of belonging in communities that need it most. The company's approach is deliberate and community-centered, focusing on opening cafés one at a time in rural areas where a new business can make a meaningful economic and social impact.

The first café is expected to create multiple new jobs in the local area, ranging from barista and service positions to management roles. The company has emphasized its commitment to hiring from within the community, providing training and development opportunities for employees, and ensuring that the café becomes a source of pride and economic opportunity for local residents.

Downtown revitalization is a core pillar of the But First, Coffee strategy. Across rural communities nationwide, downtown corridors have experienced decades of decline as businesses have closed and foot traffic has diminished. But First, Coffee sees an opportunity to reverse that trend by establishing welcoming gathering spaces that draw people back to the heart of their communities. The café will feature a carefully curated menu of specialty coffee drinks, fresh beverages, and seasonal offerings designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes and preferences.

Beyond the menu, the company is focused on creating an environment that feels genuinely inclusive. The café will be designed as a space where anyone can feel at home, whether they are stopping in for a quick espresso on their way to work, settling in for a longer visit with friends, or simply taking a quiet moment for themselves. This philosophy of warmth and accessibility is woven into every aspect of the brand, from its interior design choices to its customer service approach.

The specialty coffee industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with consumers increasingly seeking out high-quality, thoughtfully sourced beverages. But First, Coffee aims to bring that same level of quality and care to markets that have traditionally had limited access to specialty coffee experiences. The company sources its beans with attention to quality and flavor, ensuring that every cup meets the standards that discerning coffee lovers expect.

As a Black woman-owned small business, But First, Coffee also represents the growing diversity of entrepreneurship in the specialty coffee sector. The company's founder has spoken about the importance of representation in the industry and the power of building a business that reflects the values of community, inclusion, and empowerment.

Looking ahead, But First, Coffee has expressed plans to expand into additional rural communities, bringing its model of community-centered café culture to new locations. Each new opening will follow the same thoughtful, one-at-a-time approach, ensuring that the company can build deep roots in every community it serves.
