Richard Aronow Says Everyone Is Asking the Wrong Question About AI
La Jolla, CA, USA – August 15, 2026 – Richard Aronow has released a new essay that reframes the conversation around artificial intelligence in a way few writers have attempted. Rather than focusing on what machines will become, Aronow argues that the more urgent and largely overlooked question is what happens to human intention itself in a world where a machine can respond to it instantly.
At the heart of the essay is a straightforward observation. For most of human history, the distance between what a person intended and what they could actually bring into the world was filled with friction. Time. Effort. Skill. Collaboration. Resistance from others. That friction served a function most people never noticed. It slowed intention down long enough for reflection, refinement, and often correction. Artificial intelligence, Aronow argues, is quietly removing that friction, and doing so before most people have paused to consider what the removal actually means.
The essay walks through this shift across a range of examples drawn from history, culture, and everyday technology. Aronow uses stories from music, aviation, and the lived experience of encountering AI tools to illustrate how the collapse of the distance between intention and outcome is reshaping what it means to create, to build, and to bear responsibility for what one brings into the world.
Aronow returns throughout the essay to a term he calls friction-as-filter. In his framing, friction was never simply an obstacle to be overcome. It was the mechanism through which weak or under-considered intentions were sorted from the ones capable of surviving contact with reality. Removing that mechanism, without replacing it with anything comparable, changes not only what people can do but what kinds of intentions ever get tested against the world at all.
The essay is not a piece of AI criticism in the conventional sense. Aronow does not argue that the technology should be slowed down or that progress should be resisted. His argument is that the current conversation is missing the more important story, and until that story is named, professionals and creators will keep talking past each other about what is actually happening.
Aronow brings decades of experience across emerging industries to the essay, having built in categories before they were widely recognized as categories. That experience shapes his view that the most consequential shifts of any era are the hardest ones to name in the moment they are unfolding. In his reading, the shift in the relationship between human intention and its enactment is exactly such a moment.
